Dallas David Irving to Miss First Four Games of Season

Dallas Cowboys Defensive Lineman David Irving will start the 2018 NFL season on the suspended list for the second consecutive season. Moron or not?

According to reports, Irving violated the league’s substance abuse policy last season, and will be forced to miss the Cowboys’ first four games. Last season, he missed the first four games of the season for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy.

The news of the suspension is the latest bad news for Irving, who has had a tumultuous offseason. In April, the defensive lineman was accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend, who later recanted the accusation. The Frisco Police Department conducted an investigation into the allegation but they didn’t file any charges against Irving. The Dallas Cowboys need to be concerned. However, the NFL is still investigating the case and Irving could face another suspension from the league.

Irving also missed some of the Cowboys’ offseason programs, and despite attending the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp, did not practice with the team, opting to work on his conditioning on the sidelines.

“I wasn’t here because I chose not to be here,” Irving said after Thursday’s practice. “If I could’ve come, I would’ve. The real reason’s none of the public’s business.”

Irving, who was a restricted free agent after last season, was given a second-round tender by the Cowboys, which was worth $2.91 million. Due to his four-game suspension, he will forfeit roughly $685,000 in salary.

Last season, Irving’s suspension cost him a little more than $150,000 in salary. He will be eligible to return on October 1, a day after the Cowboys play the Detroit Lions on September 30. David Irving has messed up again.

Despite his suspension and injury that cost him four games, Irving finished with seven sacks in eight games last season. Things are not looking good for the Dallas Cowboys.

“There’s more to my life than just football,” Irving said. “I’m actually a real person. I have family issues, a lot of issues I’ve been dealing with. I can’t go into much detail. Just know it’s behind me. By the time the season starts, I won’t be dealing with any of this BS anymore.”
