What to Expect from the Houston Texans

With the 2018-19 NFL regular season just around the corner we look at a Houston Texans season preview. The Houston Texans won the AFC South in 2015 and 2016, but failed to make the playoffs last season, after a disappointing 4-12 finish. This year, the team not only has their sights set on winning the division, they also plan to make a deep playoff run.

The Texans odds of winning the Super Bowl is +2500. If you’d like to learn more about betting on NFL sites visit here.

Even though they had one of the worst records in the league last season, there is reason for optimism in Houston because of the talent they have on the team.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of the biggest reasons Houston fans are excited, after showing flashes of brilliance during his rookie season. Watson took over the job from Tom Savage in the second half of their season opener, and took over as the starting quarterback the next week.

With Watson under center, the Texans offense played on a higher level than they had played the previous year. The Texans went 3-3 with Watson as the starter, and could easily have been 5-1 if they hadn’t lost two close games to the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

The offensive line was one of their weaknesses last season, and the team partially addressed the need, signing Seantrel Henderson, Senio Kelemete and Zach Fulton to help bolster their line and protect Watson.

Three-time Defensive Player of the Year, J.J. Watt also missed the final 11 games of the season after suffering a season-ending injury.

The Texans are hoping that Watt, who has played only eight games in the last two years, stays healthy for the entire season and helps them reclaim the AFC South title.

The Texans improved an already good defense by adding former Arizona Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who is one of the best safeties in the game.

With an offense that features Watson, DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller, the Texans will be able to put up a lot of points. If Watts also stays healthy, their defense will be one of the best in the league, which should be enough to get them back into the playoffs.
