Tampa Bay Buccaneers Season Preview

Today, a look ahead at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers season preview. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went into the 2017 season with playoffs hopes, after a 9-7 finish the previous year, but finished with a disappointing 5-11 record. This season, they will be trying to bounce back from last year’s disappointment and make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Their odds to win the Super Bowl is +6500.

The Bucs had a very busy offseason, they overhauled their defensive line, adding players like Jason Pierre-Paul, Mitch Unrein, Beau Allen and Vinny Curry. The new defensive additions should help improve a defense that was one of the worst in the league last season.

The Buccaneers also did a great job improving their offensive line with the addition of center Ryan Jensen, which allows Ali Marpet to move back to the guard position, where he is more effective. While the offensive line upgrade is good news for their quarterback, the Buccaneers still have a hole to fill in the running back position.

Last season, Peyton Barber led the team with 423 rushing yards, followed by Doug Martin, who had 06 yards. Martin left the team to sign with the Oakland Raiders in the offseason, which means the team will need to find someone to fill the void and give them a consistent running game.

The Buccaneers also managed to lock Mike Evans and Cameron Brate to long-term deals, which will benefit their passing game for years, but the team will be without starter Jameis Winston for the first three games of the season while he serves his suspension for his involvement in an incident with an Uber driver. With Winston missing the first three games of the season, the team will likely get off to a bad start because their first three opponents this season are the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, three playoff teams from last season. If Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is expected to start in Winston’s place, plays well, the team might be able to come out of the three-game stretch with a win or two.

With the additions the Buccaneers made in the offseason, they will be a pretty good team this season, but it will be difficult to make the playoffs in a division that features three teams that won at least 10 games each last season.
