June Jones Believes Johnny Manziel Belongs In The NFL

Former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel has been out of the NFL since 2016. After being released by the Cleveland Browns, who selected him with the 22nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. What do you think? Is it possible Manziel’s NFL career is over? Can he make a comeback in the CFL?

Johnny Manziel was expected to be Cleveland’s franchise quarterback. He never got to live up to his high expectations due to his off-field behavior. Since he was released by the Browns, Manziel has cleaned up his act and was signed by the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Last Week, Hamilton’s head coach June Jones. Jones been impressed with what he has seen from Manziel. He told reporters he believes the quarterback should be playing in the NFL.

“I’ve been pleasantly surprised the last three weeks what a good teammate he is, how smart he is, how he sees the game,” Jones said. “He should be playing in the National Football League, and I believe he will when he gets through with us.” What else does Johnny Manziel need to do?

Manziel signed with the Tiger-Cats in May, as the backup to starter Jeremiah Masoli. When Manziel signed with the team, Jones told reporters that the Heisman winner had no chance of overtaking Masoli before the team’s season opener on June 16. You can bet on the Browns and other NFL teams online.

However, Jones was impressed enough with Manziel’s performance in Hamilton’s preseason finale against Montreal, after the quarterback completed 12 of 20 passes for 88 yards and 1 touchdown. Is this good enough for Johnny Manziel?

“It’ll take two years,” Jones said. “They’re [NFL executives, coaches] waiting to see that he’s taken care of his off-the-field problems.”

From what Jones has seen from Manziel, the coach believes he has turned the corner. “He’s humble,” he said. “He’s growing up every day.”

Despite Jones’ rave review. NFL teams will likely wait to see how Manziel performs in the CFL. Before taking a chance on him. If he plays well and stays out of trouble. He will likely get another chance to prove he can be a starter in the NFL.
