Case Keenum Expects To Compete With Dwayne Haskins

Last offseason, Case Keenum was one of the most sought after quarterbacks in the league after leading the Minnesota Vikings to the best record in the league. After the Vikings decided to sign Kirk Cousins, Keenum quickly found a home in Denver and was expected to lead the Broncos back to the playoffs for the first time since Peyton Manning retired in 2015.

Things didn’t pan out for Keenum last season as the Broncos finished with a 6-10 record. The team traded him to the Washington Redskins for a sixth round draft pick in March. The Redskins then drafted former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who they hope will become their franchise quarterback.

Case Keenum Keeps Fighting

With Keenum, Haskins, and Colt McCoy as their quarterbacks, the Redskins will have an interesting quarterback battle on their hands when training camp begins. For his part, Keenum is confident he can become the starter but he is also ready to help Haskins if he doesn’t get the starting job.
“This is no new game to me,” Keenum said, shortly before teeing off in a Redskins Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament at Army-Navy Country Club. “I’ve been in this situation before.” Jay Gruden also agrees.

“A good quarterback room is a noisy room,” Keenum said, “one where everyone talks and shares and sees things through different lenses. I’ve got a lot of knowledge from guys I worked with in the past. That’s part of this league is being able to pass it on. That’s how I work, that’s how I operate.”

“I’m excited to get to work with Haskins,” Keenum said. “I know he’s a great player. I watched a lot of his college games. … I’ll come in and compete. Competition makes all of us better. I hope I make him better; I think he’s going to come in and make me better. That’s what helps this team.”
