Jacksonville Jaguars Season Update

The Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the biggest surprises of the 2017 NFL season. The Jags won 10 games and the AFC South title. This was after winning only three games in the 2016 season. Now, they will be trying to prove that last season wasn’t a fluke. Prove it by winning the division again. Also by making a deeper playoff run. Can they do it again for Super Bowl 53?

Current USA online sportsbooks have the Jaguars odds to win Super Bowl 53 this season is +3500.

The Jaguars might have been able to surprise teams last season, but they won’t have such a luxury this year. They will also be dealing with an improved division with the Texans expected to have quarterback Deshaun Watson back from injury, as well as defensive end J.J. Watt, who missed almost the entire 2017 campaign.

The Tennessee Titans, who finished second in the AFC South and also made the playoffs are also expected to contend for the division title this season, and the Indianapolis Colts will also be much better with Andrew Luck, who missed the entire 2017 campaign with a shoulder injury, expected to return.

The Jaguars defense was one of the best in the NFL last season and will likely be better this season because they return the core of their defense from last season. They also added cornerback D.J. Hayden to add depth to their already stacked secondary.

Offensively, the Jaguars relied heavily on Leonard Fournette last year and fans were hoping they would upgrade the quarterback position so the team isn’t as one dimensional as it was last year. However, the team decided to give quarterback Blake Bortles and extension and seem to be happy moving forward with him as their quarterback.

Jacksonville’s biggest move was signing former Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Andrew Norwell, to help protect Bortles and open up holes for Fournette.

The Jaguars also resigned wide receiver Marqise Lee, who had 702 receiving yards and three touchdowns last season.

If Bortles doesn’t show much improvement next season, the Jaguars will likely get eliminated from the playoffs very early. But, if he plays very well, there’s no reason to believe they can’t make it to Super Bowl 53.
